WalkRace: challenge your friends to a step race

Whoever walks the most wins. A live leaderboard, automatic sync with your phone's health data and zero equipment: just your legs and the urge to beat whoever's next to you.

WalkRace: challenge your friends to a step race

Walking is good for you. We all know it. Yet the problem isn't the knowledge — it's the motivation. Going out for a walk when it's cold, when you're tired, when the couch is calling, takes a push that awareness alone rarely provides. WalkRace was born to be that push.

The idea is as simple as it is effective: it turns every walk into a real race, with real friends, in real time.

The most powerful engine: competition

No material prize beats the satisfaction of seeing your own name at the top of the leaderboard — especially when your colleagues, your flatmate or your brother are right below it.

Healthy competition is one of the most powerful tools for building habits. You don't need a personal trainer or a detailed training plan: it's enough to know someone is counting your steps, and you theirs. That thought gets your shoes on and you out the door.

You're not just walking. You're playing. And you're winning — or losing, which is even better as motivation.

How WalkRace works

It's deliberately immediate. No complicated setup, no tutorial to follow:

  • Create or join a challenge — Pick the duration (a day, a week, a month), invite the people you want and the race is on. Nothing else.
  • Walk — WalkRace counts your steps in the background, with nothing for you to do. The phone already in your pocket is all you need.
  • Check the leaderboard — Open the app whenever you want and see exactly where you stand. Who's ahead, who's behind, by how much and by how many steps.

Automatic sync: no manual counting

WalkRace integrates directly with Apple Health on iOS and Google Fit on Android. That means steps are read from the sensor already in your smartphone — the same pedometer your phone already uses every day to track your activity.

You don't have to remember to open the app before heading out. You don't have to carry any extra device. Steps are synced automatically and the leaderboard updates in real time for all participants.

Challenges for every occasion

WalkRace works at very different scales depending on the context you use it in:

  • Among friends — The classic challenge: whoever walks the most this week buys the drinks. Simple, immediate, effective.
  • In the family — A way to involve even the most sedentary. When there's a leaderboard at stake, even grandpa starts taking the stairs instead of the lift.
  • At the office — Team building that actually works. A challenge among colleagues breaks the monotony, gets people moving during the day and creates an unexpected sense of togetherness.
  • Alone, but not quite — Even without a group, you can join open challenges or simply use WalkRace to track your daily steps and beat your personal best.

Why we built it

At AppJuice we build apps that solve real problems. And sedentary life — especially for those who work all day in front of a screen — is a real, widespread and often underestimated problem.

We didn't want to make yet another fitness app with complicated charts and calorie goals. We wanted to make something light, fun, that could slip into daily habits without demanding mental effort. The challenge between friends was the natural answer: it's immediate, it's social, it's motivating without being oppressive.

WalkRace doesn't ask you to become an athlete. It just asks you to take a few more steps than yesterday — and than someone you know.
